Creative Writing For All – Autumn Programme

Local author Donna Moore will be teaching a ten week course on Creative Writing.  This relaxed and fun class is FREE and as the title suggests, open to all regardless of experience!

Creative Writing For All will run from Wednesday 21st September from 7pm-9pm.

Eco-Textiles from The Arts Tree – Autumn Programme

We are really pleased to have Siobhan Lawson of The Arts Tree coming to the Centre to teach a series of classes on Eco-Textiles.

This course is FREE and will run on Wednesday afternoons from 1pm-3pm for 10 weeks, starting on Wednesday 7th September.

Learn about the environmental effects of the textile industry alongside learning practical and creative ways of reusing & recycling your own textile goods.

It’s that time of year again! SUMMER PROGRAMME!

This year’s Summer Programme is shaping up to be the best yet!  Glasgow City Council have kindly funded the Centre once more to deliver a whole range of activities for adults and kids.

Creative, fun classes for kids include Messy Sculpture, Puppet Workshops from the Scottish Mask and Puppet Theatre, Glee Club, Dancing, Games and Playtime and Jewellery Workshops!

Adults activities include singing in the Choir, Sculpture, Half-hour massages, Comic Publishing from Cosmic Designs and Screen-printing!

Classes run on Mondays and Wednesdays starting on Monday 4th July!

But wait!  There’s more!

Healthy lunches free for children.  AND creche spaces are available for some activities!

And it’s ALL free and open to everyone!  How cool is that?

Whiteinch at the Movies! THE LION KING

The first screening of the community cinema will be Disney’s The Lion King, as voted for by Whiteinch Centre users!  We hope to be able to run screenings once a month, of all different kinds.

The family matinee of The Lion King will be on Saturday 16th July, starting at 2pm.  Tickets cost £2.50 for adults and £1.50 for children.  Ice cream and a drink are included in the ticket price.  Please note: children must be accompanied by an adult!

News: Regeneration Manager, Sarah Ward is now the proud mum of baby Kitty! Congratulations to the whole family!

Her role is being covered while she’s on maternity leave by Mark McCrorie, who has come from Glasgow South East Regeneration Agency. Mark looks forward to meeting everyone.

Also afoot: The new Summer Programme has been given the go ahead!  (Thanks, Partick West Area Committee!)

The programme is still being finalised, but will include activities for adults and children and will run on Mondays and Wednesdays throughout the Summer!

Also coming up is our first Flea Market from 1pm-4pm on the afternoon of Saturday 9th July! This is a great chance to turn your bric-a-brac and arts and crafts into cash!  Rent a stall  for £5.00 or come along to pick up a bargain!  Entry fee of 50p per person!

And if that weren’t enough, the Centre’s first Cinema Night will take place on the 16th July! Watch this space for more details.  Film to be confirmed, although we’re open to suggestions.  Should be a great night!

GRAPHIC DESIGN TASTER

Come and learn the basics of graphic design from our resident tutor Sheila Cameron.

Typography, colour and image placement will all be covered along with techniques and theory, over a five week taster course.  The class is completely free and open to all!  Please note: confidence with a computer is required.

Course starts Thursday 2nd June 2011, 1pm-3pm.

Short Courses at The Centre

We’re really glad to be bringing some new classes into the Centre.  Courses are FREE and open to all, but spaces are limited, so book yours quickly!

We have five week courses in Digital Photography and Drawing for Beginners with the fabulous Sammi Mitchell, as well as a brand new taster course in Graphic Design, taught by our resident IT tutor, Sheila Cameron.  All courses start in June.

New courses are being planned for the rest of the year, inluding new DACE courses from Glasgow University (get those ILAs ready, folks!) and we’re open to suggestion about what to offer, so please do get in touch if there’s something you’d like to learn.

WEST END FESTIVAL WORKSHOPS!

Come and take part in the West End Festival parade!  For the second year running, the Centre is working with Siobhan Lawson of The Arts Tree to produce costumes for the parade.  Workshops begin on Sunday 8th May 3pm-5pm and will run for 4 weeks.  The parade will take place on Sunday 7th June!

We are pleased to be bringing a brand new short course to the Centre, which aims to change your life!

Whiteinch resident Angela Adams is a trained NLP therapist, who has put together a course to encourage people to look at their goals and dreams and find ways to reach them. She takes very positive and aspirational approach and the tools she uses are simple but life-changing.

The 6-week course is FREE and starts on Tuesday May 3rd 10am-12pm. Please contact Ruth at the Centre for more information or to book a place.

Whiteinch Centre Newsletter – Easter 2011

We are really pleased to offer the second issue of the Whiteinch Centre newsletter for download.  This issue has been written, compiled and edited by a group of Whiteinch Centre users: Janette Hall, Simon Garforth, Marti Campbell, Flora Cameron, Esther Rough, Betty Docherty and Kathryn Archer.

This issue contains a piece about Whiteinch Church of Scotland, who use our main hall on Sundays for worship; a drawing competition for kids; updates about classes at the Centre as well as the opening paragraph of a story about a local woman who served in the NAAFI during WWII (the rest of which is available HERE).
