Autumn in The Whiteinch Centre

Friday, September 11th, 2009

WORDS ABOUT WHITEINCH UPDATE:  Submissions have been read and shortlisted for inclusion in the book.  Prize winners will be announced soon! Keep an eye on the website for more information!

The new Autumn term has started at the Centre and classes are filling up fast!

Anniesland College Courses

anniesland-invert.jpg Anniesland College is offering an NC Health and Social Care for the second year running.  This has proven to be a very popular course and the class is already full.

Other courses planned from the college include a modular course in Medical Administration.  This would be invaluable if you are looking for a job with the NHS.  The course will cover medical terminology, reception skills and administration skills among others and we hope to start it at the end of September.

A class focussed on community involvement is also planned for the new term.  This course will give participants a grounding in basic IT, but will have a strong emphasis on community projects.  This class is ideal for volunteers who are looking to develop their skills or for people who are just curious about trying out new things.

Whiteinch Centre Community Classes

itclass.jpg Community IT classes for this term will be run in blocks of five weeks, the first block of which is already underway.

Classes include Digital Photography, IT Projects (a class drawing on various IT skills to complete a class project) and Computing for Fearties.  These classes are very popular – contact the Centre as soon as possible for a space!

artclass.jpg Other activities this term are an Art class, taught by the fantastic Sammy Mitchell and the return of the Centre’s Creative Writing group (dates to be confirmed).  We hope to start a Women’s Group in the next couple of months too.  Watch this space for more information

Other Classes

Pathways to Progress returns to the Centre for more Adult Literacy and Numeracy classes this year.  This gives people a great opportunity to work on their core skills.  Classes run on Tuesdays and are open to all.

Culture and Sport Glasgow is running a Basic IT class in the Centre on Thursday afternoons along with an evening class on Adult Literacy and Numeracy on Thursday evenings.

Glasgow West Regeneration Agency also run various courses in the Centre throughout the year – see their website for more information about upcoming classes.
