The Activate Course – Get With Whiteinch
Activate is being run for the second time at the Whiteinch Centre after the success of last year’s course.
The 12 week course is a great chance to find out about the principles behind community development – theory and practice. It’s run in an informal and relaxed way, based on group discussion and practical exercises and is delivered by the University of Glasgow.
Last years students (including this writer) have all felt the benefit of the course, participating more fully in their local communities and taking up more learning opportunities.
Course content includes: Discrimination; Power and Participation; Globalisation; Social Inclusion; Group Dynamics; Campaigning among others.
Students also have to complete 3 bits of coursework – a short essay of less than 500 words; a group project and a presentation. Students are supported throughout to complete each task.
Classes start on Monday 1st December 2008 from 6.30pm-9.30pm and will run until the first week in March.
