Homage to the Whiteinch webmeister

We’ve finally got our act together and got a website! It makes a nice change for me from looking at funding applications I must say, although these things are only as interesting as the last post I suppose. Al Bain is our genius webologist, and we bow to his mystic machinations. He comes in to talk to us every now and then, so that I can ask him ridiculously simple questions and he can answer in a language I don’t understand. Anyway, it looks pretty, so he obviously knows what he’s doing.

The idea is that you should be able to find out most of what goes on at Whiteinch Centre, and in the surrounding neighbourhood. Now and then we’ll do a feature on a local personality or some such modern tidbit. If you live in the area we’d welcome input, photos etc. Don’t be shy!

We’ve been pretty busy over the Summer with our family programme. Ruth spends Mondays and Wednesdays surrounded by a gaggle of kids. Every now and then it all gets crazy but she seems to be holding it together. Still, we wanted to be busy … Sammy Mitchell has been running arts and crafts workshops with some fab-looking pots, bark-rubbing (with paper and pencil, obviously) and something that looked a bit like African body painting. The art group seems to have adopted a guerrilla approach, so you might come across them anywhere in the building, or on the grass outside. Being an artist is organic, right?

The gladiators and dance activities have been very popular, and we’re hoping to have similar activities in the October week. We’ll also be launching a new Autumn learning programe for adults in September, including IT classes with the lovely Sheila, reminiscence storytelling for the over 65s with the Village Storytelling Project and CS Glasgow, arts and crafts, creative writing, spanish. There are no longer any excuses for being a boring git. Or at least, now you can bore all your friends on a different topic. It’s all free, so add that to the touchy-feely friendly atmos in which we specialise, and it seems pretty much irresistable. We aim to please.

The next big event is the Centre’s 2nd Anniversary on Friday 3 October, followed by the Whiteinch Gala on 4th October. We are having a posh lunch in the Hall on the Friday, so look out for the golden tickets! It could be yoooooou! Actually, if you want a ticket, just come in and ask at reception for one. We will be inviting people who attend all the groups in the Centre, volunteers, and anyone local whom we know …
